Ah, Community

It’s nice to know that a queer community exists. Since the one gay bar in my town closed in December 2008, we have been without a dedicated space for queer nightlife. Sure there is “metro” night here, or the unofficial “lesbian karaoke” there, but we have no official space.

Last night, a newly reopened club hosted their inaugural Gay and Lesbian Wednesday night, complete with free green drinks (it was St. Patrick’s day) and drag kings.

There wasn’t a huge crowd, but it was a diverse crowd, from baby dykes, to gaggles of gay college boys, to older couples out for an evening. It was nice to see some new faces and be reassured that, yes, queer people do exist.
